Thorn Accord Book 1
Unknown Author
In a wintry border territory three weeks after the Thorn Accord is signed, Warden Dragos follows a thread from a frightened smith's apprentice to evidence that House Draganu has been framed in a plot that may reach even Seraphine's own kin. A border garrison burns under false Draganu colors, forged seals surface, and House Draganu is publicly accused of igniting the war everyone has feared. Seraphine, her father, and Dragos realize the attack is political theater staged by an unseen hand with Order wax and mercenary tally rings.
Jory's testimony at the Accord redirects suspicion toward Lord Varrick and, through Isolde Ashgrave's confession, toward Varic Ashgrave himself. House Draganu holds Thornfield Pass against a provocation army, is formally exonerated, and Dragos defies his Order recall to keep investigating the rot inside both the Order and Ashgrave's coalition. House Yuan's hall is burned with a planted Karsen seal, coalition Houses Thessaly, Garrow, and Vel defect to Draganu, and Seraphine — now sworn warden of the border — catches a forged-tablet plot meant to discredit Isolde and the defectors at the parley stones.
Varic retaliates with a three-hundred-strong punitive column disguised as levy, baiting the wardens into a devastating ambush at the Three Pines ford where Dragos is gravely wounded. Seraphine, forced into full command of a hundred-and-forty-mile border, trades land for time, strips the farms, starves the garrison, and marches the forged evidence, Isolde's testimony, and the surviving coalition to confront Varic and the compromised Order in open Accord. The Thorn Accord is rewritten with the wardens' oath at its spine, Varic and Varrick are brought down, and Seraphine — scarred, no longer sheltered — stands as the first warden in four hundred years whose quiet oath proved load-bearing for an entire peace.
